Santa’s spring
With the sun and lengthening days whole Lapland revives again. People recover and smile easily and they are delighted at all that fun brought by the spring days. When waiting for the snow to melt away, it is nice to ski on the icy cover of a river and enjoy the sun light and the glad faces of the other strollers. And if you want to calm down alone, you can find desolation on the river ice, too. You only must ski long enough. But when the sun makes the ice brittle, you have better to keep on the solid ground and, for instance, get your bicycle from the cellar.
The spring sun makes Santa glad, too. It is a great amusement to watch the lively elves and their doings! Sometimes Santa feels restless; then he goes for a trek to the nearby mountains, skiing, if the spring is still young, and walking, when the snow has melted away.
It is just as if whole Korvatunturi had woken up from the winter sleep. Every elf, young and old alike, begins to enjoy being out of doors more and more, on his or her own trips and adventures in the nearby woods. The nights are shortening all the time, nobody cares to go to sleep early. But it doesn’t matter, since the whole midwinter they have rested and lived very quiet life. It is now time to rejoice and time to let the hurrah ring, the hurrah for the spring!
